The Broadwindsor Craft and Design Centre is situated in the heart of West Dorset’s beautiful rolling countryside. Redundant farm buildings on the edge of the village were the starting point in 1986 for this unique venture. Today, the Craft Centre is renowned for its excellence and quality, bringing together a community of independent traders, an abundance of gifts for yourself or someone yo love, good food & a deli full of locally produced and regionally sourced food and drink.
The Craft Centre underwent a major transformation in 2002 when an extension was built from locally quarried stone. This allowed the additions of two further rooms in the main gift shop, including a dedicated toy room. The main shop gallery was also opened at this time displaying pictures, lighting, fireside tools, fire guards and log baskets.
In 2012 the Craft Centre opened the Gallery of Makers, exhibiting many talented artists from the local area all under one roof.
The Craft Centre is owned by Colin and Sarah Williams. Sarah was born to a farming family in the village and worked in the restaurant at the Craft Centre as a Saturday girl for many years. Today, it is very much a family run business, with the emphasis on a friendly, welcoming atmosphere to create an enjoyable experience.
The restaurant at the Craft Centre has been serving home produced foods for over 30 years. Totally refurbished in 2018, our restaurant and conservatory offer an attractive and comfortable setting, with free wi-fi throughout.
All of our meals are home-cooked from scratch, using only the best fresh local produce.
Our hearty breakfast menu is available from 10:00am (9:30am on weekends and during the summer holidays), with freshly cooked dishes such as eggs benedict, traditional breakfast or porridge.
Our lunch menu offers diners a wide variety of choice and caters to all appetites – whether you’re in the mood for something light, or something more substantial. Our daily Specials Board also showcases some of the best seasonal options. We have a great children’s menu too, and offer gluten-free options too.
Fine coffees and Dorset teas are served throughout the day alongside an excellent selection of cakes, with Dorset Cream Tea a speciality. For a real treat, indulge yourself with a scrumptious high tea, available between 2.30pm – 4.30pm (24hr notice required).Find out more
The Craft Centre at Broadwindsor is also home to a community of independently-run craft studios. Offering a variety of lovely gifts as well as a fascinating insight into the craftsmanship that goes into producing their creations, you can have your hair cut, grab a beauty treatment or pick up a freshly-baked loaf of sourdough bread. Take a browse through a fantastic fabric shop, or watch a master stone-carver at work - there is something for everyone to enjoy.
You might even be inspired to have a go yourself at one of the craft workshops, or purchase some materials to take home to experiment with yourself.
Opening hours of individual craft studios may vary so if you’re planning to visit a specific retailer and coming from a distance, be sure to check their opening hours with them to avoid any disappointment on the day of your visit.Find out more
